There’s a bold line between whitewashing a character of color and changing a white character into being a person of color. For example, there is nothing important about Peter Quill being a white male, he’s just seen as a character and his race has zero effect on his character development, for me to change him into a black man, there’s now significance in his skin tone and a story to be told. The life of a black man is very different from the life of a White man. Peters take on life and people’s perception on him will change. Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff is canonly a Jewish rromani girl, her being jewish and her being rroma is by far one of the most important factors of her character. Her family, her culture, her themes are surrounded by her jewishness n romanii (ness) to make her a white woman and to strip her (and her brother) of their ethnicity as if they Aren’t valid , or not important is problematic. You are also stripping actual ROMANII people out of Representation, rarely do you see them in the big screens or in comics, and when they are it’s sometimes racist stereotypes with slurs in it. WANDA/PIETRO MAXIMOFF BEING JEWISH N ROMANII PEOPLE IS SIGNIFICANT TO THEIR CHARACTERS, THEIR FAMILY HISTORY, THEIR EVERYTHING. TO STRIP THEM OF THAT JUST TO MAKE THEM WHITE IS INFACT PROBLEMATIC. Racist! And Stupid!
Same thing with tchalla, his skin color has EVERYTHING to do with his character. He’s a black man, a king of an African country wakanda. You cannot make him white, that will erase the entire purpose of his character.
Steve Rogers, white guy , all American Christian boy. Making him latinx , black, native American or asian gives him more depth, there is now a much significant story to tell, Steve just being WHITE has no PLAY onto his character. Him being switched to someone of color would give him that factor.
Kalma Khan, She’s a brown muslim girl. There is a story behind her race and faith, she has significance to a story, and other women like her in real life, to change her into a white female is problematic , you are erasing the importance of her character and the stance she takes. And you are stripping brown muslim girls out of Representation. So your an asshole.
Moral of the story is, white characters tend to never have any significance to being white…they just are, so there is no harm in switching them out for another race.
But to change the race of a character or color which (ALL THE TIME TBH) the color on their skin, and religion is important to their character as white is wrong and sickening. It’s not rocket science you idiots.
SO WHITE LIVES DON’T MATTER, RACISM AGAINST WHITE PEOPLE DOESN’T EXIST, AND COLORWASHING IS A MYTH.
