ANYWAY, listen, don’t ever underestimate the amount of love that nakia has for her people. yes, she wants to help the world, but if she ever thought there was a threat to wakandan life, she would never even think about them joining the world. everything that she wants to offer is born out of a belief in what they can do and a pride in who they are.
suicidesquads:
I identify with Nakia’s independent spirit and feeling her loyalty to her country. It means a lot to her to make her people proud and I understand that. I relate to that. That was my into figuring out who she was. I love a woman who is on a mission to make a difference which is what she’s on. — Lupita Nyong’o

listen nakia puts so much hope in m’baku when she goes to him with the flower. she could take it herself, but she does not have fighters, and so she goes to him. she goes to the man who challenged t’challa in the hopes that he will do what is right and help her to keep them all safe. she goes to a man she doesn’t really know / know if she can trust, and she asks his help because she cannot betray wakanda or do something she believes is wrong. she steals the flower for m’baku. she takes the princess and queen mother to m’baku.
and m’baku does more than she ever expects? like he could have left t’challa to die, and would maybe have somewhat been right to, but he does not. she gets her king back and it is all because of m’baku. he could have taken the flower, he could have had that strength. he didn’t. and then, even when he says he will not fight, he comes to their aide and is the reason that they are able to win the battle. he saves wakanda as much (more so even) than anyone else.
anyway, she puts so much faith in m’baku and he does not let her down at all.

question about nakia: does she enjoy her work as a spy? would she prefer a different job if given the chance?
it honestly depends on this mission. nakia is very much into the jobs that she gets to do like the one we see directly in the movie, when she infiltrates a kidnapping of women and a crime syndicate, however some of the spying isn’t like that. sometimes she gets sent to places to check out their tech, or watch for beings of power, or infiltrate a government; she struggles more with those ones. nakia’s passion is for the people she can help. she likes to be in motion, to be doing something, to be useful — jobs where she simply sits and watches can be a struggle to her.
this is also part of why she states that she does not want to be a queen at the beginning, no matter how the council would involve her, or how t’challa would value her, she would still be stagnant on the sidelines. when the outreach programme comes, it is the perfect way for her to have what she wants, because it means she would be helping people. this is the way she could be a queen, with her own responsibility for something.
at the time we meet nakia, being a spy is the perfect role for her because the real perfect role does not exist yet. her position as a war dog allows her to have some influence over the world, where wakandans often only have influence on wakanda as they keep to themselves. she adores her job because she has purpose, and she can help people, but it is not always in the way she wishes. her change of job makes sense for her because she is directly influencing people, and can have a one on one affect on their lives.
nakia’s heart is both her greatest strength and her greatest weakness. she struggles to let go of people who have wronged her / to believe that a person is wholly bad or past saving. she has almost endless amounts of hope even when she is getting kicked down. she will give herself to a person in the hopes that she could save them / help them.
however, this is only when it is her on the line. if trusting in a person / believing in a person means that her people or her nation would be put at a direct risk, she is more likely to think it through thoroughly. she will not risk wakanda for anything.
wcrdogs:
the differences between erik and nakia’s futures for wakanda is v simple to explain tho; nakia be looking at it as a way of showing aid, while erik is looking at it as black liberation. while nakia is outward thinking and does look into what they can do for others, she was still born in an african country untouched by colonialism / slavery, and all those other things. to pit the two ideas against each other —- or to wonder why erik could not see it more from her pov —- is to misunderstand they placement of erik’s rage. if he hadn’t killed her king, i think nakia would be v open to listening to his points and even agreeing with some of them, but at the time, she only sees it from a place of her own heartbreak. her ideas can only ever come from a different place / experience to his, and to use her as a way to demonise erik is dumb and wrong okay.

inheritguilt sent one more and i am here for it.
@wcrdogs do nakia’s ringblades have names
alright imma tell you that my first answer to this was just gonna be commentary on how my mammy just call everything ‘ting’ and then i laughed abt nakia calling them ‘ting 1′ and ‘ting 2′ in tribute to the frustration of picking things up in my house. ( see: my mammy like “get the ting” and me and my brother frantically tryin a find what ‘ting’ she referring to from context ‘cause she ain’t never about to explain that shit. )
anyway, the real answer is that she doesn’t have specific names for them, not like individual ones or anything. but she does refer to them super affectionately and will be like polishing them and saying they did well today and calling them ‘my love’ and likewise things. same way my mama call me ‘pretty’ as an affection thing ( like when i bring the ting before my brother and she be like “you a good girl, pretty”), nakia refers to her ringblades like they’re her pet / her family bc she love them so much. she out here calling her weapons ‘precious’ and stuff.

inheritguilt sending me character development stuff.
@wcrdogs who is nakia’s fav black artist
lets split this into a few art forms so i can address a range of stuff… rather than just naming one i’m out here to discuss art and it’s role in her life. you opened this up, you deal with this consequence. also some of the people i shout out in this are people that i love and think people should be aware of and follow, nakia and i are having some crossover. all names in this are linked.
fashion: starting point, nakia loves fashion. it’s expression and boarders the line between being good for her job and good for her soul. the women around her would dye fabrics when she was a child, so she grew up obsessed with what could be created, with the line between traditional and modern. nakia’s sense of style navigates that line well; it’s functional for her job and makes her stand out, but is really deeply routed in patterns and shapes that would be more traditional. she the style queen of wakanda. designers she would like / the sort of collections i see with her are: adama ndiaye, alphadi, ayanna dixon ( designs for asd )
musics: music is a huge thing for nakia. if there is an occasion to dance, she is dancing, no exceptions. her taste in music is huge and vast and what she’s listening to depends on what mood she is in. she a HUGE fan of things like afrobeat, calypso, mento (like pre-reggae to all my jamaicans); anything that she can dance to. but then she also like smooth. soulful stuff as well, especially when travelling and when she needs to relax. and the more traditional music styles of her people have a huge importance to her, the type of music that would be played ceremoniously. also being a spy and travelling around, she gets really into things like hip-hop and rnb and does really embrace the black culture of the places she goes to. so she has black british artists she likes and black american artists she likes, so huge and eclectic taste. some examples of artists you should look up : meklit (esp kemekem (i like your afro) bc that is a tune and i listen to it when i am sad), fuse odg (bc i lov a man), wizkid ( this boy 11 when he started recording like???), cardi b, every bit of music from the get down that show was iconic and people slept on it and it got cancelled i am mad. etc. i’ll make her a playlist at some point i promise.
art: i feel like this was the actual question u asked but u gettin this essay instead thats life fam. while shuri is all about that science and development life, i feel like nakia would put a lot of emphasis on funding for the arts and be really into the modern, contemporary art scene in africa. i bet she opens up a museum for black, female artists and gives out scholarships and things to them. one of her outreach programmes is to encourage art in the black communities around the world, and she’d be setting up classes and really be promoting a ton of art forms. the african contemporary art scene is amazing at the moment so like here’s some names bc i am a huge follower of all these people: peju alatise, nnenna okore, check this blog on the jamaican national gallery ( which is right near my family home shout out @me), also the inside african art website is hella check it.
